Welcome Letter

Welcome to the 2022-23 School Year!
 

I'd like to extend a warm Colfax Charter Elementary welcome to both our returning and new students and their families. We are looking forward to an outstanding year as staff and parents work together to create a positive learning environment and strive to meet the unique needs of each child.

 

At Colfax our vision is to ensure all children achieve academic, personal and social success through a developmentally appropriate curriculum. This goal provides differentiated teaching, research based instructional strategies, enrichment programs and interventions that address the social, emotional and academic needs of the whole child. Colfax Charter continues to provide an exemplary education through a learning program that incorporates music, dance, art, gardening, physical education and technology into the standards-based curriculum. The goal is to provide a rich educational experience for all students.

 

Additionally, we have aligned ourselves with the LAUSD's newly adopted Strategic Plan. With this plan, we are establishing a new, inspiring vision on how we can improve student achievement and close opportunity gaps. We believe that by outlining a singular goal and a vision for achieving this goal, we can ensure that everyone who is a part of Los Angeles Unified will be able to support and uplift our district together. Our singular goal: ensure all students graduate READY FOR THE WORLD - to thrive in college, career and life.

Principal, Colfax Charter Elementary School 

My name is Eddie Gorton and I could not be more proud to serve as the eleventh Principal of Colfax Charter Elementary School. I have been with the school district since 2002 and bring with me twelve years of classroom teaching experience, two years of instructional coach experience, and was instrumental in rolling out restorative justice practices in Local District Northeast before I became the Assistant Principal at Strathern, Sylvan Park, and Carpenter Community Charter.

Originally, I am from the Bay Area and came to L.A. to attend Occidental College in the Fall of 1997. While at Oxy I participated in athletics, built the KOXY radio station, and became a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc. I am married to my amazing wife Karina, a 5^th grade teacher with LAUSD at Haddon Elementary School in Pacoima. Our two sons, Xavier and Lorenzo, are both in primary grades at Carpenter.
