Welcome Letter

A letter from Mrs. Friedman

August, 2017

Welcome to the 2017 – 2018 school year!  I am very excited to begin my third year as Principal of the wonderful school!  Over the past 2 years, we have continued to grow both our academic and social programs.  This year, we will continue to do so with some exciting new additions to our curriculum.

This year we also begin our construction project.  This project, when completed in 2020, will bring us a new 2 – story building for offices and classrooms, 2 new kinder classrooms, a parent center and new teachers’ lounge.  Come and watch us grow!

This school year, in collaboration with our Local School Site Leadership Council (LSLC), Parent Association of Colfax Elementary (PACE) and PTA, we look forward to the following:

  • Welcoming back our TK program to Colfax
  • Continued Vocal Music, Visual Arts, PE, Science Lab and Violin classes
  • A new, in school, computer curriculum for grades TK – 5 taught by computer specialists, ComputerWise Kids
  • Continued Ballroom Dance instruction for 4th and 5th grades from the DREAM program and Fordney Foundation
  • A shift of ST Math (Jiji) to be used in grades 1 – 4
  • A new English Language Arts curriculum, Benchmark Advance
  • Continued access to our other online programs, RAZ kids and Brain Pop Jr., used in the classrooms

I look forward to another successful school year with increased collaboration, parent involvement and student successes.  We are “Rooted in Education and Reaching for the Stars”!

Warmly,
