Physical Education
Since living
an active lifestyle and being physically fit is essential to good health, every
Wednesday you can find our team of dedicated staff members and volunteers
working with the students. They lead students in activities geared at
developing game skills that are success oriented and non-competitive. These
standards-based lessons are fun and increase cardio health and muscle strength.
Our
Coaches:
Michelle
OÕNeil
Ms. OÕNeil has
coordinated our physical education program for several years. She schedules
volunteers and staff to ensure that on Wednesdays, all our students participate
in physical fitness and team building activities. Ms. OÕNeil guides students
though our Colfax Bootcamp, where students focus on building upper body and core strength.
Mark and
Elizabeth Blanchard – Yoga
Mark and
Elizabeth and their wonderful instructors have voluntarily provided yoga
instruction for our students during the past four years. They work with kids
incorporating age appropriate lessons that focus on increasing studentsÕ
flexibility, core strength and mental focus. Mark BlanchardÕs Power Yoga studio
is located in Studio City. All Colfax parents receive a special discounted rate
of $10 per class. http://markblanchardsyoga.com
Sean
Farnham- Basketball
Our basketball
coach, Sean, played basketball at UCLA for four years. When he played for the
Bruins, the team made it to the NCAA tournament all four years, the Elite 8
once and the Sweet 16 twice. Sean works with Colfax students to develop their
ball handling, dribbling and passing skills.
Sarah
Farnham- Soccer
Sarah, our
soccer coach, is a former UCLA soccer player. She works with the students to
develop ball handing and soccer-related coordination skills.
By giving
students the opportunity to practice games skills that promote strength and
confidence on a regular basis, our goal is to make sure that all of our
students develop healthy habits that will stay with them for the rest of their
lives!
