Welcome to the Colfax Charter website! My name is Susana Gomez-Judkins and I am the proud Principal of this small neighborhood school. Colfax is an amazing place to work, learn, and reach for the stars.  Our incredibly dedicated staff works hard to provide a quality well-rounded program that is rooted in a rigorous standards-based curriculum and enriched with music, theater and visual arts. Our mission is to ensure the academic and personal success of all students. Together we encourage each child to aspire to his or her highest potential in a safe engaging environment. We strive to provide opportunities so that our students may face and triumph over the challenges of a global workforce.

Colfax is an affiliated charter. This means we are still a part of the Los Angeles Unified School District, but we have flexibility in our instructional programs and budgets. Our instructional programs are different then other LAUSD schools because they integrate the core academic curriculum with:

I. Science - Hands-on experience-based learning through FOSS kits, gardening, farm, recycling.

II. Technology-We use technology to learn and create. JiJi Math, Office, iWork, Music Ace, and Kidpixs are just a few of the programs we use for instruction and communication.

III. The Arts - K-5 Musical instrument program that includes Suzuki Violins and Keyboards. The LAUSD Arts Program includes dance, theatre and visual arts.

Colfax would not be the school it is without the tremendous dedication of the parents and community.  Our Parent TeacherŐs Association (PTA) and Parent Association of Colfax Elementary (PACE) organizations work to beautify the school and raise funds to support our excellent programs.  Thanks to their efforts we have art and music programs, a farm, a science lab, a Wonder of Reading library, a track and field, new playground equipment, support in the classrooms and our very own literacy garden.

We hope you find our website a useful source of information and feel free to contact us if you have any questions.
