Our Philosophy

Colfax is a diverse neighborhood elementary school located in Valley Village. Colfax was once an arboretum and is surrounded by large trees that embody our school’s motto: Rooted in Education and Reaching for the Stars.

Colfax is rooted in education, rooted in the community and rooted in parent involvement. We are a community whose parents and staff reflect a caring concern for each other as well as for our wonderful students.

We believe that children learn through a thinking and creating curriculum that emphasizes grade level preparedness while incorporating creative methods of exploration. We believe that this can be accomplished best by providing:

• developmental pathways

• basic reading, writing and math skills

• experiential learning

• problem solving curriculum

• enrichment through the arts

• small and whole groups

• a psychologically and physically safe campus

• and a feeling of trust and belonging.
